A man wanted on a looting complaint since Hurricane Katrina has been taken into custody.

A warrant signed in September 2005 listed Aswad Thabiti Fowler of Biloxi as a defendant in one of dozens of looting cases in the city after the hurricane made landfall.

He is accused of throwing a brick through the window of Circle K convenience store on Rodenberg Avenue, said police Lt. Bobby Darden.

Police initially released Fowler pending investigation, Darden said, then later went to arrest him but couldn’t find him.

Police picked him up Friday at a driver’s license bureau in Gulfport. The warrant showed up on a records check, Darden said.

Fowler, 35, of Beach Boulevard in Biloxi, was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond. He remained in custody at the Harrison County jail on Tuesday.
