An accident Tuesday evening at the corner of Lakeshore Road and Highway 90 sent two to people to the hospital and left one vehicle gutted in flames.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Johnny Poulos said Friday that the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Poulos, a Mitsubishi truck driven by Charles Gallan, 59, of Brandon, Ms, was attempting to enter the highway from Lakeshore Road when it collided with a 1998 Dodge 1500 driven by Rocky Kingston, 50, of Waveland.
The Dodge came to rest in a ditch in the median of the highway and the Mitsubishi spun around in the service lane and caught fire a short time later, officials said.
Gallan was able to exit the vehicle before it caught fire, Poulos said.
Kingston was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated by the Bayside Fire Department.
Firefighters also extinguished the blaze on Gallan’s truck.
The accident caused major damage to both vehicles and the Dodge was badly burned.
Kingston was taken to Hancock Medical Center and Gallan was taken to Gulfport Memorial, Poulos said.
No further information was available by press time Friday.
