The Jackson City Council is talking about extending its smoking ban to bars that sell only beer.
Victoria Burt, a smoker and former owner of the beer-only Hide A Way Lounge, tells The Clarion-Ledger that people who go into bars should expect smoke.
The newspaper reports that a majority of council members are now ready to adopt a total ban because they believe it will be easier to enforce.
Council President Frank Bluntson proposed expanding the ordinance to all public places after a Clarion-Ledger investigation found numerous night spots allowed smoking. Some owners and managers said they believed they were exempt and said no one from the city explained the ordinance to them.
