Volunteers comb Deer Island this Earth Day

BILOXI, MS

Today is Earth Day, a day where people around the world join together to highlight the importance of taking care of our environment and planet earth.

In South Mississippi, there are several Earth Day observances. One is a cleanup taking place this morning on Deer Island.

Beau Rivage and Hard Rock Casinos are working with Mississippi Power’s Renew our Rivers program to clean up the island. Volunteers will spend the morning picking up trash.

The Renew Our Rivers program began in 2006 with annual cleanups that have collected 115 tons of trash from our community’s waterways and shorelines.

Doug Walker is going out with volunteers as they clean up Deer Island this morning. He’ll show us what was picked up and how much trash was collected later today on WLOX.com and WLOX News.
