GULFPORT

Police said they have arrested a convicted felon and two fugitives in unrelated cases. One man had been sought in an armed robbery in Moss Point.

Damian Ladell Brown, 23, of Gulfport, was wanted in an armed holdup in Moss Point. Gulfport police found him in a traffic stop Monday on 25th Avenue. Police said he was a passenger and gave a false name. Brown was released to the Moss Point Police Department and held pending a bond hearing. Moss Point Police Chief Sheila Smallman said Brown is accused of robbing a guest at Shular Inn on Mississippi 63 in February. She said Brown and the alleged victim are acquainted and possibly related.

Mario Q. Burks, 30, of Gulfport, was wanted on a probation violation by the U.S. Marshals Service. He had been convicted of crack-cocaine possession.

Officers found Burks in a traffic stop Sunday on 28th Street. Police said he had marijuana in the vehicle. He was denied bond in federal court Monday. The detention order said Burks tested positive for pot nine times last year, once earlier this month and again after the traffic stop.
