Police said they arrested a suspect Friday morning in the robbery of an 88-year-old priest on Christmas Eve.

Officers took James Edward Hill into custody at his home in the 300 block of Mercier Avenue.

Detective Sgt. Michael Lally said police obtained the warrant after receiving reports on evidence tested at the state Crime Lab.

The Rev. Bartholomew Endslow was injured in the holdup at the rectory of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Lally said the priest answered the door around 9:30 p.m. believing it was someone who had stopped by to wish him a Merry Christmas.

Lally said the priest was slammed against the wall by a man who said he had a knife. He was robbed of his wallet and watch. Hill is charged with armed robbery.

Justice Court Judge Gene Dedeaux set bond at $175,000.

Hill is held with no bond for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He is on probation for conviction of a robbery in Harrison County.
