Italian opera, a farmers market opening, an oyster festival and a “Hot Flashes” theater production — South Mississippians have a diverse offering of activities this week.

A grand-opening celebration Tuesday kicks off the season at the Biloxi Farmers’ Market, where shoppers can pick from a wide assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, plants and home-baked goods. The market is under the Interstate 110 bridge overpass on Howard Avenue.

Also Tuesday, the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce hosts “Uncorked” at IP Casino’s Carnaval De Brasil, to raise money for high school scholarships, the junior leadership program and small-business grants.

Leaving Brazil for Italy, guests are encouraged to don Roman costumes for “Under the Tuscan Spell,” a fundraiser for the Gulf Coast Opera Salon on Thursday at the Commodore’s Ballroom at the Gulfport Yacht Club. Tenor J.T. Anglin, soprano Kimberly Davis and mezzo soprano Marsha Ackerman will entertain music lovers during cocktails and dinner.
