Doctor arrested at ER on pill charge

Agents say 40-plus bottles found at his clinic

Narcotics agents said an Ocean Springs doctor had been under investigation on prescription-drug complaints before his arrest early Friday at Biloxi Regional Medical Center.

Biloxi police arrested Dr. Matthew Cary Wallack, 43, after receiving a call from emergency-room staff. Investigators said he was in possession of oxycodone pills that weren’t prescribed to him.

After learning of his arrest, the Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County searched Wallack’s clinic at 19 Marks Road in Ocean Springs. They found more than 40 bottles of prescription drugs he had prescribed to other people, said Lt. Curtis Spiers, task force commander.

“We found ledgers, and by his own admission, he had written prescriptions for his patients and had taken the medicine back from his patients and was freely giving them out to other people,” Spiers said.

“We have been receiving complaints about his practice and the distribution of narcotics for several years,” Spiers said.

Wallack specializes in pain management and neurology. He lives on Riverwalk Circle in Biloxi.

“You cannot take medicine prescribed to someone and give it to another person,” Spiers said. “State law calls that transfer of a controlled substance.”

Spiers said narcotics agents will meet with the Jackson County district attorney Monday and additional charges will be filed.
