Suspect in child-sex case caught after 18 months

An 18-month search has ended for a Gulfport man accused in the sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl.

A federal fugitive task force took Donald Scott Castrogiovanni, 54, into custody in Asheville, N.C. He had been wanted on a fugitive warrant since September 2009.

Gulfport Police Sgt. Chris Ryle said investigators had an arrest warrant for Castrogiovanni but he fled the state. He was arrested at the home of a relative, Ryle said Wednesday.

The U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Gulfport worked with its counterpart in Asheville to find him, Ryle said.
