Airport gets grant

The Associated Press

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a $6 million grant for noise abatement at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

The noise abatement program is part of the airport’s ongoing multiyear expansion project.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, both R-Miss.

The senators say the grant will let the airport acquire easements to improve day-night average noise level standards.

Some of the money will be used to install insulation to improve interior soundproofing in 93 nearby homes.
