Man charged with Moss Point murder

MOSS POINT

One Moss Point man is dead and another is in custody in a killing, Moss Point Police detective J.D. Savage said Tuesday.

Police identified the victim of a stabbing Friday in east Moss Point as 36-year-old Roderick Tate.

Tate was pronounced brain dead at Singing River Hospital on Tuesday, Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus confirmed. He was an organ donor.

Police learned of the stabbing after officials in the emergency department at Singing River Hospital called to report they were treating the victim Friday night.

On Monday, Savage said, a suspect in the stabbing, Jeremy D. Collins, 19, of Moss Point, surrendered at the Moss Point Police Department, where he initially was charged with aggravated assault. That charge was upgraded to murder Tuesday after Tate’s death.

Collins remained jailed Tuesday pending a bond hearing.

To report information, call Savage at 475-1711.
