THIS WEEK | A-hunting they will go

McKenzi Smith searches for eggs during an Easter egg hunt at City Park in Pascagoula last year. The Pascagoula Parks and Recreation Department’s Easter Egg Hunt will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Beach Park in Pascagoula.

Tens of thousands of eggs are up for grabs this week at Easter hunts scheduled throughout South Mississippi.

From Pascagoula to Picayune, Coast children will find plastic eggs in a rainbow of colors.

Pascagoula Parks and Recreation is hosting a regular hunt Friday morning with a flashlight hunt and Bunny Hop dance scheduled later in the evening at Beach Park.

On Saturday, Ocean Springs will hold its hunt in Little Children’s Park, while Biloxi searchers take over the Town Green to find their loot. In Picayune, airplanes will drop 10,000 plastic eggs on the field at Picayune Municipal Airport for easy pick-up.

Harrison County Parks and Recreation divides its 32,000 plastic eggs between 10 community parks for Easter egg hunts.

This is the 21st year for the county-wide hunt. Director Mike McMillan expects the Three Rivers Park location to be the busiest because that’s where the Easter Bunny poses for photographs after the eggs are found.

For those who would rather decorate than search, St. Patrick Episcopal Church in Long Beach will offer classes Wednesday in the pysanky technique of dyeing intricately patterned eggs.

Eggs not your thing?

There’s the 22nd annual Barbecue Under the Oaks at Oaklawn in Pass Christian, a fundraiser for the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, and the 17th annual Herb and Garden Festival hosted by the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce in the downtown area.

Saints fans can meet cornerback Tracy Porter on Saturday at the Sports Shack in D’Iberville.
