Man admits shooting assault rifle in driveby

Jesus Garcia Lee has admitted using an SKS assault rifle in a drive-by shooting in DeLisle.

Lee was on trial Wednesday for the 2008 shooting when he changed his plea to guilty, said Assistant District Attorney George Huffman. Codefendants identified Lee as the one with the assault rifle and Lee gave conflicting statements under cross-examination, Huffman said.

Circuit Judge Roger Clark set sentencing for March 25 at 9 a.m.

Lee, of Lobouy Road, faces up to 30 years in prison. He is 38.

The drive-by shooting occurred after an attempted armed robbery. Both incidents occurred on Aug. 4, 2008, at a home on North Pine Extension near Pass Christian. A woman and three men had driven to a house to rob the resident but the victim chased them from his home and struck the woman in the face with a shower rod he had carried out of the house.

Two of the men ran into a wooded area. The woman and the other man drove to Lee’s home and they went back to the victim’s home, according to testimony.

Lee was mad because the woman was injured, Huffman said.

Bullets from a handgun and the assault rifle riddled the home 17 times. Eight rounds entered the residence. No one was injured.
