Second most wanted suspect caught

One of South Mississippi’s most wanted criminal suspects featured in the Sun Herald in February was in custody in Carroll County on Tuesday, authorities said.

Carroll County sheriff’s deputies arrested Barry Joe Sanders, 50, on Monday at a home there on Mississippi 17 South, Carroll County Sheriff’s Investigator Joe Taylor said.

“We knew some information on what kind of vehicle he was in and located it at the residence,” Taylor said. “He was staying there. He was arrested without incident.”

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies issued warrants for Sanders’ arrest on felony charges of receiving stolen property and intimidating a witness. He’s accused of buying a stolen 4-wheeler in December in Latimer and later threatening witnesses in the case.

On Tuesday, Sanders remained jailed in Carroll County pending extradition to Jackson County. Jackson County Sheriff’s Investigator Ken McClenic led the investigation.

Sanders is the second South Mississippi most wanted suspect taken into custody after being featured in the Sun Herald in February.
