Two indicted in drive-by shooting

A Jackson County grand jury has indicted two South Mississippi men in a May 22, 2009, drive-by shooting that injured a woman and two men outside a Pascagoula apartment complex, court records show.

Laterrance Donta Adams and Tykarus Raymon Smith, both of Pascagoula, are indicted on three counts each of aggravated assault and one count each of drive-by shooting. At the time of the shooting Adams was 19 and Smith was 18.

The two are accused of firing a shotgun at the three victims while they were standing in a parking lot on Hospital Road. Authorities believe the shooting was related to a fight the same night at Sun Chase Apartments, also on Hospital Road.

Police said a single shotgun blast that resulted in the injuries was fired from a gray Nissan Versa headed south on Hospital Road.

One of the victims refused treatment, but the others went to Singing River Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Court records show the suspects are tentatively set to go to trial in May.
