Panel will seek business for Bay

BAY ST. LOUIS

An economic-development committee, expected to be unveiled today, will be charged with leaving “no stone unturned” in its search for new business, Bay St. Louis Councilwoman Wendy McDonald said.

City Council members and Mayor Les Fillingame are each responsible for an appointee to the new volunteer committee.

McDonald expects the committee will be Bay St. Louis stakeholders of different backgrounds and philosophies who will bring new ideas to the table.

She wants the group to encourage investor interest and suggest new tourist draws such as festivals, and other events to bring visitors to the city.

Fillingame hopes the committee will bring in a full-service supermarket and more lodging, and generate large-scale retail investor interest at the Interstate 10 and Mississippi 603 intersection.

Bay-Waveland Main Street Executive Director Sherry Bevis said this committee couldn’t have been created three years ago, when investors wondered if Bay St. Louis would recover from Katrina.
