The 2010 Biloxi Boat and RV Show opened Friday under near-perfect weather at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center.

With clear skies and light winds blowing from the Mississippi Sound, the event, which concludes Sunday, had boating enthusiasts standing in line when doors opened at noon.

The first hour alone drew an estimated crowd of 200.

“We opened well,” Gulf Coast Shows producer Dan Miller said. “We are looking forward to a real big weekend.

“That’s a good sign, to me, for the economy in general. It shows that people are ready to get back to recreational activities. I think the early crowds shows there’s a lot of interests in boating and RVs.

“That’s good news for potential boat buyers and the dealers.

“This truly is a one-stop shopping event.”

The show features 65 vendors.

Based on attendance numbers at Mobile and New Orleans shows, Melissa Miller of Gulf Coast Shows expects larger crowds in Biloxi.

“We had between 10,000 and 12,000 last year that was with a terrible economy,” said.

“I think we could be up 25 to 30 percent this year.”
