Two suffer minor injuries in Tuesday night accident

PASCAGOULA, Miss.

Elizabeth Potter, 24, and Johnathan Balius, 26, both of River Road, suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday night, according to the Pascagoula Police Department.

Potter was at Singing River Hospital on Wednesday morning, and her condition was described as stable. Balius was treated and released Tuesday night.

The wreck occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Catawba Street, which is between Telephone and River roads in Pascagoula. Potter was driving, and both speed and alcohol are believed to be factors, Lt. Davy Davis said.

“Several witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at very high rates of speed — between 65 and 85 mph,” Davis said. The posted speed limit is 25 mph.

“Going west on Catawba, they had to cross a set of railroad tracks that were raised in the roadway, which witnesses said caused the vehicle to start bouncing uncontrollably and flip.

“We were contacted immediately.”

The Police Department on Wednesday was awaiting results of a blood test Potter submitted to at the hospital.
