Science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts landed on the Coast this weekend for the 33rd annual CoastCon.

The convention continues today at the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi.

Nicki Clyne, a star from “Battlestar Galactica,” will be signing autographs today from noon until 1 p.m. and 2 until 3 p.m. Guest author David Drake of the “Lord of the Isles” series is also appearing at the convention on Sunday.

Hundreds of attendees Saturday showed up in costumes including aliens, Vulcans from “Star Trek,” vampires, superheroes and anime characters.

“This convention lets people escape to a better world,” said Jason Fisher, CoastCon event organizer.

Vendors at the convention offer wares ranging from “Star Trek” clocks to “Indiana Jones” hats.

Herb McCaulla has been a vendor at CoastCon for the past 33 years.

“People are so accepting here,” McCaulla said.

“Lawyers mingle with custodians with no problems here. Politics or anything else does not matter at this convention. It is just a fun place to escape your problems.”

Proceeds for the convention are being donated to the Bay Area Food Bank.
