Picayune man arrested in forgery case

Deputies arrested Brad Strong, 30, of Picayune, following an investigation by the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s office.

Strong was charged Wednesday with one count of uttering forgery and one count of embezzlement.

According to Attorney General Jim Hood, Strong, operating under the name A&B Construction, was given a check for $1,100 as a payment to build a boathouse for a client.

Strong allegedly altered the check and unsuccessfully attempted to cash it for the forged amount.

An indictment by a Hancock grand jury Jan. 11 alleges Strong was issued another two checks totalling $1,800.

He later told the homeowner he lost the two checks, and was given another check for the full amount.

Strong is accused of then cashing all three checks.

Uttering forgery carries a penalty of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $10,000.

Embezzlement carries up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
