Man charged with DUI in wreck that caused injuries

Both drivers taken to hospitals

GULFPORT

A Gulfport man was charged with driving under the influence as part of an ongong investigation into a two-car wreck Wednesday night on Pass Road that injured both drivers.

Jeffrey Stevenson, 50, was charged with DUI, driving without a license and no insurance in the wreck. Both he and Pam Firmin, an arts and feature writer for the Sun Herald, were taken to area hospitals.

Firmin remained hospitalized Thursday.

Police were called to the scene of the wreck at about 7:45 p.m. An investigation determined that Firmin was traveling west on Pass Road in a 2007 Honda Accord, when Stevenson, who had been traveling east on Pass Road, turned north onto Cowan Road in front of Firmin, police said. Stevenson was driving a 1994 Ford Taurus.
