Trial set for woman accused of husband’s stabbing death

Hanocok County

An April trial is expected for a Lakeshore woman accused of stabbing her husband to death during a domestic dispute last year.

Hope Juanita Fitzhugh, who was 39 at the time, was charged with murder after her husband died on March 12, 2009. She is charged with killing 37-year-old Gregory Allen Fitzhugh, who died of a stab wound to the chest.

Hope Fitzhugh was indicted for murder by a Hancock County Grand Jury on Jan. 11.

Her case is scheduled for the April 15 docket call in Circuit Court at the county courthouse in Bay St. Louis.
Fitzhugh had been taken into custody after the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department received a call reporting a disturbance at her home at 7516 Lakeshore Road. Upon arriving, deputies found the body of Gregory Fitzhugh. Officials said he had died of a stab wound to the chest.

Two small children, ages one and seven, were also found at the home, deputies said. They were taken into custody at the time by the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
At the time of Hope Fitzhugh’s arrest, investigators said officials had received previous calls on domestic disturbances at the same address. Upon her arrest, Fitzhugh was held under $1 million bond set by Justice Court Judge Tommy Carver.
