94 pounds of pot taken down on I-10

Hanocok County

The Mississippi Highway Patrol busted a Florida man Wednesday who was allegedly transporting 94 pounds of marijuana.
It was the largest pot bust in Hancock County in three years.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Spokesperson Delores Lewis said Thursday that troopers stopped a vehicle driven by Larry Chad Nelson, 26, of Pensacola at the seven-mile marker of Interstate 10.
During a search of Nelson’s vehicle, troopers discovered 94 pounds of marijuana wrapped in bundles and covered with plastic, officials said.
Nelson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, Lewis said.
The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be about $140,000.
Nelson, who has an extensive criminal history that includes convictions for felony narcotics and deadly weapons violations, was transported to the Hancock County Adult Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.
He was later transported to the Pearl River County Jail.
MBN was called in to investigate the case and the Waveland Police Department also assisted, Lewis said.
