Shot fired at car in Moss Point

MOSS POINT

Police are investigating a report of a gunshot fired at a woman in a vehicle early Monday morning at the intersection of Macphelah and Sapphire streets, according to the Moss Point Police Department.

The woman told police she was on her way home from a friend’s birthday party around 2:30 a.m. Monday when a man stepped into the street in the path of her vehicle and screamed for her to stop, said Phyllis Hyde, the police department’s records clerk.

The woman told police she drove past the man but then heard a shot fired; she said the bullet hit the rear of her vehicle. The man later jumped into a vehicle, believed to be a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice, Hyde said, and apparently followed the woman’s vehicle until she was able to lose him.

The man, Hyde said, was described as black, about 5 feet 7 inches and 160 pounds with his hair in twisted braids.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Moss Point Police Department at 475-1711.
