Shooting victim was at child’s party

One man was shot and another jailed Sunday following an argument at a Pascagoula home where the victim was attending his 1-year-old’s birthday party, Pascagoula Police Lt. Davy Davis said.

Davis said the shooting that sent Shamari Armond Lovett, 20, to an Alabama hospital with injuries to his pelvic area was reported shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 4400 block of Concord Drive.

The alleged shooter, Tevan Minor, 18, of Pascagoula, surrendered to authorities later Sunday night and is charged with aggravated assault. Minor, records show, also was arrested Saturday on a simple assault charge in an unrelated incident. In that case, Davis said, someone came in to sign charges against Minor, though details about that incident were not immediately available.

Minor remained jailed Monday on the aggravated assault charge at the Pascagoula Municipal jail.

Sunday’s shooting occurred, police said, shortly after Minor drove up in the home’s driveway, got of his car armed with a silver handgun and confronted Lovett.

“The two exchanged words,” Davis said, “and Minor shot Lovett…”

Lovett initially was taken to Singing River Hospital for treatment, but later was transferred to an Alabama hospital.

A motive for the shooting is still under investigation.

The Sun Herald was unable to reach the child’s mother for comment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pascagoula Police Department at 762-2211.
