Crowds bask in Diamondhead sunshine

Revelers draped in purple, gold and green beads lined the country club streets on Saturday for the 34th Annual Krewe of Diamondhead Parade.

The crowds brought lawn chairs to bask in the sunshine before the long procession of elaborate floats and an eclectic mix of spiced-up golf carts passed by.

The sounds of Broadway musical hits entertained paradegoers as the Krewe unloaded beads, stuffed animals collectable throws and other carnival treats.

This was the first Mardi Gras parade for Charlie Johnson and his family.

“I have heard about Mardi Gras,” Johnson said. “We came for the beads and the fun. Wow what a blast.”

Ray Sheehy rolled through the community in a big fancy convertible as the Grand Marshall for the parade.

Residents continued to party in the streets long after the parade made its way towards the Diamondhead Country Club.

“It feels so good to be in the warm sunshine at Mardi Gras,” said Kim Selner at the parade.
