Snow a no show for Hancock Co. area

While a large part of South Mississippi was treated to snow Friday morning, only a handful of sporadic flurries was reported in Hancock County.

Moderate to heavy snow was reported in the DeLisle and northern Pass Christian area and areas north and east of Hancock County.

However, in Hancock Coutny, snow was light north of Interstate 10 and virtually unseen in the cities of Waveland and Bay St. Louis. Hancock County Emergency Management Director Brian Adam said Friday that there was some minor snowfall throughout the county, but no accumulation.

Dreary conditions were seen along the roads and highways of the county most of the day Friday, but only one accident had been reported by press time.

Nobody was injured in the crash, officials said.

The threat of snow Thursday caused all of the schools in the county to close Friday, but government offices remained open.

“I think people took the necessary precautions,” Adam said. “It was a pretty uneventful day. Every one wants to see snow, but it can be very dangerous for travelers.”
